The posterior lobe receives input mainly from the brainstem ( i . e ., reticular formation and inferior olivary nucleus ) and cerebral cortex.
The supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus, are stored in the posterior lobe and released from axon endings ( dendrites ) within the lobe.
