   “ छांदोग़्य उपनिषद् में , प्रजाZपति इंद्र के प्रश्नों के उत्तर देते हुए उन लक्षणो की ओर संकेत किया गया है , जिनके द्वारा सही अर्थो में स्व या आत्मा की पहचाना जा सके . ” आत्मा जो पाप , वृद्धावस्था , मृत्यु , पीड़ी , भूख और प्यास मुक़्त है , जो इच्छा करती है कि उसे क़्या इच्छा करनी चाहिए और सोचती है कि उसे क़्या सोचना चाहिए ; उस आत्मा को हमे अवश्य जानने के प्रयत्न करना चाहिए .
