"' Astrorhizata "'is a class within the foraminifera that comprises those species with primitive unilocular, ( single chambered ), tests composed of aggulinated material or microgranular calcite.
The genus bears much similarity to a related genus " Convolvulus ", and is sometimes combined with it; it is distinguished primarily by the pollen being smooth, and in the ovary being unilocular.
The stomach has the characteristic pattern of sigmodontines ( unilocular-hemiglandular ) : it is not split in two chambers by an incisura angularis and the front part ( antrum ) is covered by a glandular epithelium.
The racemes are few-flowered, short, erect, crowded in axils of upper leaves so as to form a large terminal inflorescence stamens barren; the ovary is superior, unilocular, with marginal ovules.
