   दरवाज़े के दूसरी ओर , वर्कशॉप में उसे अपने पिता का स्वर सुनाई दे रहा था - जिस तरह ग्राहकों से बातचीत करते समय दुकानदारों की आवाज़ कुछ - कुछ झिझकी - सी , सुशामद - भरी हो जाती है - कुछ वैसा ही लहजा उसके पिता अपने ग्राहकों से बात करते वक़्त अपना लेते थे । उसे बेहद चिढ़ होती है , बाबू के इस लहजे से । कभी - कभी लोगों की पदचाप - तले फर्श के तख़्ते चरमरा उठते थे और इस्त्री का सिरसिराता स्वर सुनाई दे जाता था ।
