   आलोचना के प्रहारों के आगे एफ.बी.आई आडम्बरी हो गया और उसने बहाना बनाया कि मस्जिद की गिनती का उद्देश्य मस्जिद आधारित आतंकवाद की सम्भावना को रोकना नहीं है परन्तु इसका आशय तो तो उन संस्थानों की आतंकवाद के प्रति पीड़ित होने की सम्भावना के बारे में जानकर भविष्य के हमलों से बेहतर तरीके से उनकी रक्षा करना है।
2. Ordinary Muslims are confused. Do they believe their ears, or their eyes? Do they listen to hypocritical politicians or straight-talking Islamists? The gap between theory and practice can only be addressed by honest and open debate. Does the body politic want law enforcement to pay extra attention to Muslims? Does it favor Muslim visitors having to fill out extra paperwork? These practices exist at present, but in a limbo, without sanction or legitimacy. They need either to be ended or made official.    सामान्य मुसलमान संशयग्रस्त है। वे अपने कानों पर भरोसा करें या आँखों पर वे आडम्बरी राजनेताओं को सुनें या सीधी बात करने वाले इस्लामवादियों को। सिद्धान्त और व्यवहार के मध्य इस अन्तर को ईमानदार और खुली बहस से सम्बोधित किया जा सकता है। क्या राजनेता चाहते हैं कि मुसलमानों पर विश्ष ध्यान दिया जाये ? क्या वह मुस्लिम यात्रियों के पक्ष में है कि वे अतिरिक्त कागजी कारिवाई करें ? ये व्यवहार वर्तमान समय में अस्तित्व में हैं परन्तु बिना किसी मान्यता के या तो उन्हें समाप्त कर दिया जाये या फिर आधिकारिक बना दिया जाये ।
3. As for Israel, it faces the same existential threat as before. It gains from Hamas's near isolation from the West, from the fractured Palestinian movement, and from its having a single address in Gaza. Also, it benefits from having an enemy, Hamas, overt in its intention to eliminate the Jewish state, rather than dissimulating, like Fatah. (Fatah talks to Jerusalem while killing Israelis, Hamas kills Israelis without negotiations; Fatah is not moderate, but crafty; Hamas is quite purely ideological.) But Israel loses when the fervor, discipline, and stern consistency of totalitarian Islam replace Fatah's incoherent, Arafatian mish-mash.
   जहाँ तक इजरायल का सम्बन्ध है तो इसके समक्ष पहले की भाँति ही अस्तित्व का खतरा विद्यमान है। इसे पश्चिम की ओर से हमास के लगभग बहिष्कार, फिलीस्तीनी आन्दोलन में टूट-फूट और गाजा की ओर से एकमात्र ध्यान दे पाने का लाभ हुआ है। इसके अलावा इसे यहूदी राज्य को नष्ट करने के आशय के स्पष्ट शत्रु का लाभ भी हुआ है न कि फतह की भाँति आडम्बरी शत्रु । ( फतह इजरायल वालों को मारकर जेरूसलम से बात भी करता है जबकि हमास बिना बातचीत के इजरायल वालों को मारता है, फतह नरम नहीं है पर दिखाता है जबकि हमास विचारधारागत है) परन्तु इजरायल के लिए अब फतह जैसे अराफाती रणनीति वाले संगठन का स्थान उत्साही , अनुशासित और कड़ी नियमिततावाले अधिनायकवादी इस्लाम ने ले लिया है।
