1. Objections against Hindi being made the official language were based on three factors : -LRB- 1 -RRB- the advocates of Hindustani held that Sanskritised , literary Hindi was far removed from the spoken language , even in Hindi-speaking regions , and the number of those who understood it was comparatively small ; -LRB- 2 -RRB- those who did not speak Hindi , specially those who spoke the south Indian languages , protested that if Hindi took the place of English as the official language at an early date , they would not be able to compete with Hindi-speaking people for the Central and All-India Services ; -LRB- 3 -RRB- people with a Western education generally argued that neither Hindi nor any other regional language would , for a long time to come , be able to serve as the vehicle of official business specially to express precisely the higher concepts of law and jurisprudence .
   हिंदी को राजकीय भाषा बनाये जाने के संबध में उठायी गयी आपत्तियां मुख़्य तीन तथ्यों पर आधारित थी - ( 1 ) हिदुस्तानी की वकालत करने वालों का मत था कि संस्कृत निष्ठ साहित्यिक हिंदी , जहां हिंदी बोली जाती है ऐसे क्षेत्रो में भी बोली जाने वाली भाषा से बहुत भिन्न और उसको समझने वालों की संख़्या तुलनात्मक रूप में कम है . ( 2 ) हिंदी नहीं बोलने वाले , विशेषकर वे जो दक्षिण भारतीय भाषांए बोलते थे , उन्होंनें विरोध किया कि यदि हिंदी ने राजकीय भाषा के रूप में शीघ्र ही अंग्रेजी का स्थान ग्रहण किया तो वे केंद्रीय और अखिल भारतीय सेवाओं के लिए हिंदी बोलने वालों के साथ प्रतिस्पर्धा नहीं कर सकेगें . ( 3 ) पाश्चात्य शिक्षा प्राप्त लोगों न सामान्य रूप से तर्क प्रस्तुत किए न तो हिंदी और न कोई अन्य क्षेत्रीय भाषा , आने वाले लंबे समय तक राजकीय कामकाज चलाने का कार्य संपन्न करने , विशेष रूप से कानून की ऊंची अवधारणाओं तथा न्यायशास्त्र को सूक्ष्मता से व्यक़्त करने में , समर्थ हो सकेगी .
